David Despain is a freelance journalist based in Gilbert, Arizona. With a background in nutrition and food science, he writes primarily about the health and biological sciences. He has written for Scientific American, Outside, Food Technology, and the journal Clinical Geriatrics. He was also an official blogger for the American Society for Nutrition’s Scientific Sessions at Experimental Biology for three consecutive years — two of his blog posts were featured by NPR. As a member and volunteer, David also serves as a newsletter editor for the Cactus Section of Institute of Food Technologists and the Desert Rivers chapter of the Audubon Society.
