David Despain, MS, CFS, is a science and health writer with a passion for good food combined with a good story. He lives, eats too much home cooking, burns off the excess outdoors, and gets plenty of the "sunshine vitamin" in Gilbert, Ariz. He's written for a variety of publications including Scientific American, Outside Online, the American Society for Nutrition's (ASN) Nutrition Notes Daily, and Institute of Food Technologists' (IFT) Food Technology magazine and Live! blog. He's also covered new findings reported at scientific meetings including Experimental Biology, AAAS, AOCS, CASW, Sigma Xi, IFT, and others on his personal blog "Evolving Health." In addition, he volunteers as newsletter chair for his local Cactus IFT chapter and newsletter content editor for his local Desert Rivers Audubon chapter newsletter.He's an active member of respected organizations including the National Association of Science Writers (NASW), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), ASN, IFT, the American Oil and Chemical Society (AOCS), the National Audubon Society, and the American Society of Naturalists. He has a master's degree in human nutrition and a bachelor's degree in English. He also recently earned his Certified Food Scientist credential from IFT in August 2017.
